Granite Hills returns from a bye week to face its second straight Top 10 opponent.
#3 Granite Hills Eagles (1-0) vs. #8 St. Augustine Saints (2-0)
St. Augustine's offense led by Brady Palmer has looked strong so far, totaling 307 yards and four touchdowns. Granite Hills' defense looked solid in their opener against Mission Hills and had two weeks to prepare for the Saints. Junior halfbacks Isaiah Jackson and Maxwell Turner deliver an explosive one-two punch for the Eagles that could give the St. Augustine defense problems.
Publisher's Pick: Granite Hills
#15 La Jolla Vikings (2-0) at #12 El Capitan Vaqueros (2-0)
El Capitan's recent dominant win of 55-0 against Canyon Hills showcased quarterback Brandt Barker's precision with 246 yards and four touchdowns, backed by Chance LaChappa's two touchdowns and some contributions from Julian Mays. On the defensive front, Gavin Taylor shone with three sacks and a strip touchdown. La Jolla's close 17-15 victory over Scripps Ranch was led by quarterback Jackson Diehl's 248 total yards and two end zone strikes, along with his rushing ability. Receivers Nick Sebro, Hank Hansen, Kai Fukuda, and Carson Diehl provide strong support, while Aiden McGill bolsters the running game.
Publisher's Pick: El Capitan
Best of the Rest
Mt. Carmel Sundevils (2-0) at Westview Wolverines (2-0)
Westview comes into the "Battle of the 56" riding high off their 39-21 victory over San Diego, where Amare Gomez showcased his versatility with two rushing touchdowns and a receiving score, while Mason Walsh orchestrated the offense with two touchdown passes. Brian Loyd's pick-six added to the Wolverines' stellar performance. On the other side of the field, Mt. Carmel dominated Patrick Henry with a 35-7 win, powered by duel-threat Trevor Taumopeau's four passing touchdowns, and a 49-yard dash to the end zone. Axel Enriquez put up 102 rushing yards on 18 carries. With last season's close encounter still fresh in their minds, where Mt. Carmel edged out Westview 20-17, the Wolverines should be hungry for redemption.
Publisher's Pick: Westview
