Week 3 Games of the Week

#5 San Marcos Knights (2-0) at Oceanside Pirates (1-1)
Oceanside leads all-time series 22-10

The highly-competitive Avocado League opens its schedule with two formidable contenders looking to get a head start in what should be a gauntlet for the title.

After breaking a nine-game winning streak against the Pirates last season, the Knights visit John Carroll Stadium this Friday hoping to make it two-in-a-row.

Kyrin Beachem has proven that he can make plays as a quarterback, receiver, and defensive back. In Oceanside's 42-29 win over Westview, the senior recorded three touchdown passes, while sophomore running back Kavika Tua found the end zone four times.

Last week at Grossmont, San Marcos found themselves trailing 21-0 in the first half, but the Knights stormed back and finished the game on a 35-0 run to prevent the upset. Mike Hasting's 11-yard touchdown pass to Jalen Bainer in the fourth quarter gave the Knights their first lead of the game.

Publisher's Pick:

Morse Tigers (2-0) at #9 Lincoln Hornets (2-0)
Lincoln leads all-time series 20-17

A staple in Southeast San Diego since 1963, the 38th edition of the Unity Bowl looks to feature one of the best match-ups in the history of the rivalry.

Morse is off to a hot start, outscoring their opponents by a combined 82-0 in their first two games of the year. They enter the Hive looking for its first win over Lincoln since 1997. Since then the Hornets have won six straight over the team located just three miles away.

Lincoln is fresh off a thrilling overtime win against San Diego, where they overcame a 13-0 deficit entering the fourth quarter. Sophomore quarterback Raymond Spriggs Jr. came off the bench and helped lead the offense to 20 unanswered points.

If he makes his first career varsity start, he'll be looking to target senior captains Don Chapman and Jamahd Monroe. Leading the ground attack for the Hornets is Kenneth Stevenson, who scored the game-winning touchdown last week.

Expect Jaycob Hicks and Kenny Chaney to deliver a solid one-two punch for the Tigers' run game, while UCLA commit Shamar Martin leads one of the best secondaries in the county.
