Women's Football: Surge falls at Central Cal, Stars end their season victorious

Women's Football Alliance
Central Cal War Angels (5-2) 23
SAN DIEGO SURGE (7-1) 14
FINAL

DELANO, CA (06/13/2015) Down 14-17 with 2:09 left to play, any hope of a game-winning drive for the Surge ended immediately after Melissa Gallegos' pass was intercepted. The War Angels followed up their game-saving play with a touchdown to seal the win.

The stunning defeat marks only the second time the Surge dropped a regular season contest. The first took place in 2013 when they lost a 40-18 decision to the Sacramento Sirens.

A win in this game could have clinched the number one seed and homefield advantage in the upcoming playoffs, but now they must wait for the updated Massey Ratings to find out where they'll be seeded.

Independent Women's Football League
NORTH COUNTY STARS (2-5) 24
Nevada Storm (3-5) 22
FINAL

FALLBROOK, CA (06/13/2015) A week after being awarded their first victory of the season via forfeit, the Stars took it upon themselves to earn a win on the field.

After trailing 14-0, the Stars got on the board to make it 14-8 with 7:00 left in the half. A 30-yard touchdown run by Renea Hickman gave the Stars a 16-14 lead at halftime, and they would never trail again.

The Stars increased their lead to 24-14 in the third quarter with a goal line touchdown run by Redd Brinkman. Nevada would score off a long run to cut the lead to two points, but the Stars held on for a hard-fought win to close out the regular season.

Hickman put up big numbers in the run game thanks to outstanding blocking by the offensive line. The Stars also came up big on defense with three interceptions.
