Fresno State 52 San Diego State 40
San Diego State got off to a hot start leading 21-7 at the
end of the first quarter, but three consecutive turnovers in the second quarter
turned into 21 unanswered points for Fresno State. The Bulldogs led 36-27 at
halftime.
The Aztecs regained the lead early in the third quarter after
some turnovers of their own. A forced fumble by Vaness Harris led to Brice
Butler’s 8-yard touchdown catch.
On the ensuing drive, the Bulldogs drove all the way down to
the Aztec’s goal line only to be picked off by Leon McFadden. McFadden returned
it 96 yards for a touchdown and gave the Aztecs a 40-36 lead with 09:09 left in
the third quarter.
That would be the last positive play for the Aztecs. The
Bulldogs would go on to take advantage of more Aztec turnovers and put up 17 more unanswered
points to seal the win.
