As expected, quarterback Phillip Rivers saw limited action. He completed three out of five passes, recorded 37 passing yards, hit tight end Antonio Gates for the first touchdown of the game, and threw an interception while trying to force a pass to wide receiver Robert Meachem.
On the defensive side of the ball, first round draft pick Melvin Ingram saw plenty of action in his NFL debut. The rookie linebacker, who started the game in place of the injured Jarrett Johnson, had an impressive showing and lived up to the hype he's been receiving during training camp.
His best play of the night was a hit he put on reigning MVP Aaron Rodgers forcing him to get picked off by corner back Antoine Cason. The Packers resorted to double teaming him in attempt to slow down the pressure he was bringing to the backfield.
Another top performer was second year wide receiver Vincent Brown. The former San Diego State Aztec led all receivers with four receptions, 81 yards, and a 27-yard touchdown pass from quarterback Jarrett Lee.
Replacement official Shannon Eastin made history by becoming the first woman to officiate an NFL game. The hat and whistle that she wore during the game will be displayed at the Pro Football Hall of Fame.
Next on the schedule for the Chargers is a visit from the Dallas Cowboys a week after Saturday.
Injury Report: Running back Ryan Mathews is expected to be out for 4-6 weeks with a broken clavicle he suffered during his only carry of the game. He will have surgery on Friday.
