2011 CIF Section Champions Crowned

The "Q"
Where San Diego Prep Football dreams become reality.

2011 Division I Champions
Poway Titans
Defeated Vista 56-0

When defending Division I champion Vista started the 2011 season 0-4, a chance at a repeat looked like a long shot. Against all odds, The Panthers returned to the Q after winning seven of their next eight games. Unfortunately, the Q is where their comeback season would end. Vista turned the ball over six times and allowed undefeated Poway to put up seven touchdowns in the first half alone. Poway's 56-point victory set a new San Diego Section Division I title game record.

Player of the Game:
Poway Junior CB Derek Babiash
3 Interceptions, 1 returned for a TD

2011 Division II Champions
Helix Highlanders
Defeated Oceanside 44-6

Oceanside's record streak of seven straight titles ended after a surprisingly lopsided loss to Helix. This game was expected to be close but the Pirate's defense had trouble stopping the run and struggled to get their offense going. A shut-out preventing goal-line touchdown during the game's closing seconds was the only time they scored. For the Highlanders, this win should land them in the Division II State Championship.

Player of the Game:
Helix Junior RB Michael Adkins
Rushed for 137 yards & 2 TDs

2011 Division III Champions
Cathedral Catholic Dons
Defeated Olympian 41-0

Olympian had no answer for Cathedral's passing attack. Quarterback Garrett Bogart threw the ball to Brian Heinz four times for four touchdowns. This win gave the Dons their fifth straight title and thanks to Helix they now own the San Diego section’s longest football championship streak.

Player of the Game:
Cathedral Catholic Senior WR Brian Heinz
124 yards & 4 TDs Receiving

2011 Division IV Champions
Valley Center Jaguars
Defeated Santana 20-14

Trailing 20-7 late in the fourth quarter, Santana quarterback Kyle Gasner threw a ten-yard pass for a touchdown to make it 20-14 with 1:22 left to play. The Sultans recovered the ensuing onside kick but the referees ruled that the ball was touched before it went 10 yards. The Jaguars ran out the clock and clinched their fifth section title in eight years.

Player of the Game:
Valley Center Senior RB Garrett Fiehler
Rushed for 205 yards & 1 TD
